Meet the Puppets

Bill Kronick
systems analyst
Gaithersburg, MD

Bill is both honored and privileged to have been accepted to perform with such a talented group as the Puppets, and hopes they don't regret it too much. Born with a face meant for radio, Bill has performed with groups as a voice actor in both Atlanta and New Jersey. His stage credits include playing Draco Malfoy in the spoof Welcome Back,Potter (also as a contributing writer), and he has appeared on Broadway, originating the title character in "Waiting For Godot."

Dave Coleman
software manager
Gaithersburg, MD

Dave has been putting off writing his bio until the Nobel committee gets back to him. But since they seem to have lost his number, it's time to knuckle down and spill the beans. Dave is new to improv, but no stranger to having people laugh at him. Among his many talents is the ability to count to 1,023 on his fingers. He also makes a mean omelet, but not without breaking a few eggs.

David Hyams

Mclean, VA

Piano Dave is a dynamic figure who enjoys scaling walls and crushing ice. He revels in the challenge of working with people who improvise without musical instruments. If pressed, Dave would tell you that he is primarily a jazz pianist, and that he has played or studied with Joe Henderson, Dr. Billy Taylor, J.J. Johnson, Dr. Phillip Strange, and Neal Creque. He works hard at maintaining his secret identity as a mild-mannered attorney for a large metropolitan software company. So far no one has figured it out, despite the fact that Dave routinely forgets to wear his glasses.

Denny Grizzle

Frederick, MD

Denny is a native of West Virginia and spent most of his adult life in Maryland. He has been in some avenue of performance since he was very young. He grew up as a magician, performing mostly improvisational close-up magic at parties and restaurants. He was a full-time musician after college and has also acted in several plays and films. In 2000 Denny took an improv comedy class in Frederick, MD and fell in love with it. To quote him: "Improvisation is by far, for me, the purest form of expression of myself while on stage. When its at its best...it is pure honesty." He sincerely hopes you enjoy yourself as you watch a performance by The Screaming Puppets.

Lauren Fisher Newberg
lawyer
Vienna, VA

Lauren moved to the D.C. area from Philadelphia in 2001. While in Philadelphia, Lauren performed with Polywumpus Improv Comedy - another really cool group of people who do fun mostly-short-form improv. Prior to joining Polywumpus, Lauren studied improv with ComedySportz - including one season in the CSz -Minor League.- Lauren's improv ambition is to learn to do gibberish in several different languages. Although Lauren loves being silly and making people laugh, she spends her working hours protecting the intellectual property rights of America Online and helping AOL to stay out of trouble. Her job is not generally silly, although sometimes it does make people laugh.

Mike Young
programmer
Vienna, VA

Mike has been in improv for more years than he can count, although he has not yet run out of fingers. Previous to the Screaming Puppets, he performed with Mprov in DC, and has taken classes with the Maryland Ensemble Theater in Frederick. Mike has performed in scripted plays as well, both with Burtonsville Players and Laurel Community Theater. In addition to improvisational theater, Mike has over ten years experience in interactive literature and designs video games. Check out his latest project at Interactivities, Inc.

Sarah Cook

Washington, DC

Sarah was raised by a small tribe of sock puppets indigenous to the great state of Ohio. In her early years the tribe of sock puppets noticed her affinity for performing when Sarah chased off a hungry wolverine with joke after nauseating joke. She has found a natural home with the Screaming Puppets of DC, a nearly obsolete breed of puppet known for its unscripted and spontaneous behavior.

Tony Liberato
network engineer
Washington, DC

Tony has found great comfort in his time with the Puppets. There is a wonderful thing, here. He is also responsible for making sure there are dimples in the concrete. Every night, when the children are fast asleep, he grabs his magic masonry dimpler and procedes outside, to all the wonderful concrete, then with just a simple tap here and there, he puts dimples where there were none before. If only he could get others to join him it would be a wonderful place. Instead, he finds people through improv. Oh, well, its a start. Come to one of our shows, and like those fancy potato chips, you will want to come back for more.

Wendy Donigian
actress
Baltimore, MD

Wendy knew from the time she was 5 that she wanted to be a serious actor so she could sign autographs amid throngs of adoring, screeching fans. When that got boring she switched to comedy. She is unbelievably grateful to the Screaming Puppets who have provided her with 15, 497.65 barrels of laughs which have sucessfully staved off insanity for her thus far. When she is not making things up as she goes, Wendy works as an actress and film maker. Her short film, "Maria Complex" (which stars fellow Puppet Tony) was an Official Selection of the New York Short Film Festival and screened at the Annapolis Film Festival in 2005. Her full-length movie, tentatively entitled "Gray Matters", is next up for awards. Please keep your fingers crossed for her!

Yancy Davis
programmer
College Park, MD

Yancy has been a fan of improvisation for most of his life. As a youth, he often forced his way to the front row of Grateful Dead concerts to watch "Uncle Jerry" at work. Tragically, Yancy was born without a sense of rhythm, rendering him unable to follow his dreams of musical improvisation. His hopes shattered, Yancy toured the country as a Johnny Cash impersonator belting out "Ring of Fire" each night, his voice fake but his tears real. It was in this state that the Screaming Puppets found him and took him in, introducing him to the brave new world of both theatrical improvisation and back ornaments. His life would never be the same.
